Kids Need Orthotics Too

When most people think of orthotics, they think of them as something for adults only. Children and teenagers can benefit from using orthotics as well as adults.

Children and teenagers can experience foot pain in much the same way as adults. Every time one puts their foot on the ground while walking or running, the shock is absorbed by the foot, knee, and hip.

Children and teenagers can experience flat feet, heel pain, and growing pains. As children’s bones grow and lengthen, they experience growing pains, which is different from fully grown adults.

What Type of Orthotics are Available for Kids?

There are two types of orthotics that are available for children and teenagers. Both types can be purchased over the counter without a prescription.

The first type of orthotic available to you is a prefabricated set. Prefabricated orthotics are made to fit a wide variety of feet and offer heel and sole protection. They are typically made from gel or some type of foam. Choosing between the two is usually based on comfort and personal preference.

The second type of orthotic available to you is custom-made. These orthotics are designed to be an exact fit for your child’s or teenager’s feet. To achieve an exact fit, a mold will be taken of your child’s or teenager’s feet.

Regardless of whether you choose prefabricated or custom-made orthotics, you can rest assured that the professionals at Foot General will be there to assist you. We carry a variety of prefabricated orthotics to choose from. We appreciate your interest in Foot General!
